It depends on who you ask. Could be outmoded idiocy, protection from invasion (militia), or insurance against our own government (related to the "rebellion clause"). I see no reason to pack on a daily basis, but since I ascribe to the latter I own a WWII Mauser and a shotgun (unfortunately my wife is staunchly against pistols in our house  )
